Introduction

NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG) FACULTY/ DIVISION: HUMANITIES SCHOOL OF LANGUAGE: SETSWANA POSITION NUMBER: M000215 VACANCY: JUNIOR LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The position is mission critical to the development and enhancement of African languages in professional domains.

Description
  1. Teaching & Learning
  • SETM111 & 121; SETM311 & 322 together with Honours modules both in TSNL & THIS (and carry out related duties, i.e., marking, setting assessments).
  1. Academic Administration
  • Keep class discipline and adhere to all the requirements for the administration of allocated modules as required by the NWU rules and policy.
  1. Research & Publications
  • Be active in research through self-development, attend workshops in research in pursuit of furthering one’s academic qualifications and publishing articles etc. Improve qualifications to Master’s/Doctorate level; contribute towards the research output of the School of Languages.
  1. Social Responsiveness/ Community Engagement
  • Participate in community engagements through community projects and collaboration with Stake holders where necessary.

       

The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.

Profile
  • BA Honours  Degree in Setswana specialisation in Setswana Linguistics/Language;
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate or postgraduate students (honours).

 

ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCES:

  • Accreditations  in any specialised field related to once discipline.
  • Registrations with professional bodies that add value and guides one’s profession
  • Membership with Professional bodies related to one’s field will be an added advantage
  • Research and Publication in accredited journal will be an added advantage.

 

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of the theory and practical applications of Language Practice (especially, translation and interpreting
  • Thorough Knowledge of Setswana
  • Postgraduate Qualification in Language Practice or African Languages Linguistics
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, Excel)
  • Excellent administration skills
