Introduction

My client is looking for an experienced Senior Buyer, with a Chemical Background. Persons who do not have this experience need not apply.

Duties & Responsibilities

Core Tasks

1 Sourcing of Procurement items

2 Secure supply which matches company’s needs and provide competitive pricing for materials and services thus ensuring product suitability and continuity of supply

3 Negotiate pricing for materials and services. ensure best value through identifying the most appropriate sources.

4 Expedite purchase orders to ensure delivery dates are met, by reviewing outstanding purchase orders regularly. Immediately escalate to Procurement Manager if there are any concerns.

5 Ensure achievement of KPIs (eg. Supplier Evaluation Targets)

 

Strategic and Operational Responsibilities:

1 Assure appropriate and ethical conduct in company’s dealings with Suppliers and Service providers.

2 Ensure effective implementation of agreed procurement processes and compliance of supply base. Ensure Requisition Processes are documented and followed in the company

3 Implement and administer the purchasing policies, procedures and key supply programs ensuring full support and buy-in of Internal Business Partners

4 Utilize Procurement tools and processes based on global procurement strategies in a business orientated mode of operation.

5 Ensure cooperation with Global Category Buyers regarding forecasting, pricing and supplier development

6 Continuously evaluate supplier performance and ensure effective and efficient supplier relationship management

7 PR conversion and error handling on assigned PR and PO including transmission to suppliers.

8 Business Support for Strategic Procurement: maintenance of suppliers in PASTIS Master data, creation of vendors, completion of specific information in credit applications, creation and maintenance of SAP contracts and contract repository

 

General Responsibilities:

1 Active representation of company’s interests.

2 Setting example / communicating company values and principles. Interaction and co-operation with relevant internal interfaces

3 Monitor pricing to ensure they are not adjusted without notice. Liaise with Procurement Manager, analyse pricing and act accordingly.

4 Assist with company stock takes as and when required.

5 Carry out and assist with supplier audits.

6 Run daily open purchase order reports to maintain control.

7 Ensure that suppliers provide COA’s timeously.

8 Keep the procurement RM specification master updated and complete.

9 Assist with invoice and pricing queries from finance.

10 Assist with the review of all current purchasing systems / requirements and update to meet IATF 16 949 and ISO 14001.

11 Ensure that suppliers comply with defined/legal environmental procedures.

12 Help create and maintain the necessary controls and systems to achieve the company’s strategy in respect of BBBEE for the meeting of targets for “Preferential Procurement”.

13 Any other lawful requests made by the company.

 

Authorities:

1. Authorised to stop shipment and / or production to correct quality.

2. Authorised to report and / or stop any process and / or use of equipment posing a threat to the Safety and Health of any employee and / or the Environment.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Academic

Purchasing Diploma/Degree, Matric.

 

Experience

5 years of experience in Procurement.

Good analytical and negotiating skills.

Strong attention to detail.

Good IT skills in an integrated system environment (SAP)

High level of integrity

Fluent in English

 

Personal Attributes

Good telephone manner.

Needs to be very firm.
