The South African Breastmilk Reserve is a non-profit organisation that started in 2003 and today is the largest milkbank banking partner of the South Africa Department of Health that supplies donated breastmilk to private and public hospitals around the country and conducts research on breastmilk.

SABR seeks to appoint Healthcare Sector Despatch and Relationship Coordinator/Manager to be based in SABR Head Office, Braamfontein.

This position is primarily stationed at the SABR Head Office. It includes some travel to SABR milkbanks in government hospitals.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the daily despatch of donated breastmilk to hospitals;
  • Preparing samples for microbiological testing;
  • Tracking and recording orders, client information, managing relationships and increasing donated breastmilk orders;
  • Liaising with the Milkbank staff in the hospitals to collect accurate monthly statistics and maintain breastmilk levels;
  • Promoting and developing human milkbanks to hospitals and other distribution avenues;
  • Maintaining stock levels of consumables at Head Office and in the milkbanks;
  • Travel to the milkbanks in the various hospitals as assigned form time to time;
  • Supervising the Head Office staff as allocated from time-to-time;
  • Office administration and record-keeping;
  • Implementing and following up on the monitoring and evaluation system and components;
  • Ensuring that quality assurance, health and safety standards and hygiene standards are maintained at all times including universal regular hand washing procedures;
  • Being the SABR ambassador with doctors and dieticians so that they support and encourage breast milk donations, and
  • Advocacy work to promote human milk banking

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Preferably has completed a laboratory assistant, biotechnology or related qualification;
  • Preferably registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa HPCSA;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet;
  • Attention to detail with a high level of numerical accuracy
  • At least have three to five year’s related working experience;
  • Be computer and smartphone literate and confident with the Microsoft Office package;
  • Clear telephone communicator, well-spoken and able to build relationships;
  • Strong administration skills;
  • A valid driver’s licence, own a car and prepared to use it to drive to hospital;
  • Understanding record keeping and librarianship;
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices;
  • Ability to maintain effective reporting procedures and control workflow;
  • Be self-motivated and able to work on one’s own;
  • Own a car and be prepared to use it for SABR business, and
  • Ideally be a mother who has breastfed her children.

The SABR is an organisation that responds to emergencies therefore, although the office working hours are 07h00 to 16h00 Monday to Friday, to participate in the emergency stand by roster.
