ABOUT THE COMPANY – ARMSCOR

Armaments Corporation of South Africa (known as ARMSCOR) was established in 1968 as an arms production company. Today, Armscor are the South African Department of Defence’s (DOD) arms procurement agency.

Not only do Armscor provide services to the DOD, but they also service the South African Government and other stakeholders across Africa.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

The Armscor Bursary Scheme will be awarding bursaries to undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to pursue a career in the Engineering and Science faculty. The bursary award, funded by Armscor and the defence industry will be awarded to exceptional learners to help address the problem of critical skills in engineering and science within the defence industry.

Bursaries will be awarded within the following fields of study:
Undergraduate:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (light current)
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science (with the intention to study postgraduate Ergonomics)
  • Computer Science Engineering
  • Applied Mathematics and Science
  • Applied Mathematics and Statistics

Postgraduate:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Naval/ Marine Engineering
  • Chemistry
  • Human Movement Sciences
  • Computer Science

The Armscor bursary will cover the following expenses:
Undergraduate students: tuition fees, prescribed books, meals, accommodation, as well as coaching, mentoring, individual counselling and the chance to do vacation work.

Postgraduate students: tuition fees, prescribed books, meals, accommodation, as well as the chance to apply for funding to attend workshops, local conferences, laboratory visits or another activity which will support the current research.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Strong academic performer
  • Interested in working within the defence sector
  • Obtained good results for Science, Mathematics and English in Matric
  • Have registered (or plan to register) to study at South African University/ University of Technology
  • Studying full-time in one of the aforementioned fields of study (1st/ 2nd/ 3rd year)
  • Postgraduate applicants: registered to study towards a full-time Honours/ Masters/ Doctoral qualification

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Colour photo (passport size) attached to the top left corner of the first page
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Undergraduate students:
    • Matric certificate
    • Academic transcripts to date
    • Parents/ guardians proof of income
    • 2 testimonials to support your application
  • Postgraduate students:
    • Degree certificate
    • Academic transcripts to date
    • Research topic detailed outline
    • Proof of any other sources of funding
