A JSE listed Wealth Management institution which has been providing tailored global and local investment offerings to private and institutional clients is looking for an analytical and pioneering Graduate to join their vibrant team as a Credit Risk Analyst.
Duties & Responsibilities
Main Purpose of the Job
The Credit Risk Analyst will play an important role in assisting an investment team that manages a range of fixed income, equity and multi-asset funds and solutions. The main focus will be on developing and maintaining the credit risk models and assisting with analysis of all credit risk exposures. They will however, also be expected to contribute towards the success of the full investment process, from developing portfolio strategy through to trade execution and administration, encompassing involvement on the front, middle and back office aspects of the process.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Develop credit risk analytics
- Maintain existing credit risk models
- Prepare credit risk exposure reports
- Analyse credit risks for new issues and keep abreast of developments in existing exposures.
- Prepare investment case reports for credit exposures
- Prepare Powerpoint slides for inclusion in client presentations.
- Develop an understanding of the full portfolio management process
- Keep abreast of current markets and company-specific information.
Description of Tasks
- Maintain and actively develop relationships with investment banks that issue new bonds.
- Maintain a schedule to show upcoming bond market auctions and relevant statistics.
- Research and propose new developments in fixed income credit risk analytics.
- Develop a credit risk dashboard showing credit risks and exposures across all funds.
- Analyse new corporate debt issues including analysis of balance sheet, income statement and capital structure.
- Write up investment case for potential new issues.
- Liaise with investment team to develop further integration of ESG issues into investment process.
- Prepare reports and slides for inclusion in report-back meetings.
- Assist the investment administration team with relevant actions to assist with trade executions and settlement.
- Assist portfolio managers with administrative matters
- Assist with preparation of client proposals, presentations, portfolio reviews
- Any other duties that may be required from time to time
Skills/Personal Attributes Required
- Strong financial analysis skills (i.e. Accounting) with exposure to IFRS.
- Very strong attention to detail.
- Ability to analyse information, interpret trends and draw relevant conclusions.
- Strong numerical skills and ability to develop and maintain Excel spreadsheet models. An ability to program Excel VBA applications will be an advantage.
- Ability to write coherent reports and recommendations.
- Professional, proactive, efficient and reliable.
- Confident communicating with external parties and clients.
- Sound inter-personal skills, friendly, good telephone manner.
- Must be able to work under pressure and focus for long periods.
- Able to work effectively within a team or independently.
- Passion for accounting analysis and a keen interest in working in investment markets.
- Integrity and trustworthiness must be beyond reproach.
Qualifications
- A degree in the Finance/Accounting/Investment Management fields, with preference for Finance and Accounting.
