Government Bursary For Students With Disabilities
Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental or a combination of these. It is also said that disability is not inability. This is because disabled people if given the necessary support can do as much as most ordinary people. Society is decorated with many disabled people who have gone on to achieve great things in life. It is because of this that the South African government through the higher education and training department introduced a bursary programme for students with disabilities.
The bursary facility assists disabled students in meeting costs to do with actual registration, tuition and examination fees payable to the institution, costs of books and other study materials prescribed by the Institution in relation to the qualification, students accommodation and meal costs, student transportation and the costs of providing an assistive device or human support to the student.
Eligibility for this bursary is open to new and continuing disabled students who have been accepted for admission at one of the public higher and further education and training institutions. The student must be enrolled for their first undergraduate qualification or a postgraduate professional qualification. Beneficiaries of the bursary are required to work in South Africa for a specified period upon completion of their studies.
