Introduction

Our farming division needs a Head Grower to replace the production roles of the retiring Head Farm Manager. Hadeco is a reputable floriculture company in its 75th year of operations. We grow quality cut flowers and flower bulbs, mostly for export.

 

We have well- appointed offices in an extremely pleasant setting in Little Falls, Roodepoort. The position requires extensive driving to farms across Gauteng, North West and Limpopo.

Duties & Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

 

Reporting back to Technical Operations Manager (TOM), Advisor (during training phases) and directors

Analyse and compare production on all farms

Recommend pesticide use in consultation with Head of Sustainability

Monitor plant health across all crops

Monitor disease presence

Monitor and regulate soil moisture

Manage fertiliser programs with TOM

Plan crop planting in consultation with TOM

Advise farm managers on production techniques

Oversee cut flower picking across farms

Improve staff efficiency

Manage processing warehouses on all outlying farms with TOM

Oversee harvesting across farms

Oversee ex- lab processes

Implement and oversee ‘special’ programs with TOM

– virus removal, fertiliser optimisation etc

Oversee maintenance on remote farms

Learn all aspects of flower bulb crops during training phases

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications and minimum requirements:

Requirements:

Must have a South African Matric Certificate

Horticultural degree or diploma

Must have Human Resources experience and training

Must have at least 10 years field crop experience

Must have experience with managing farms and teams of workers

Must have experience with overseeing multiple crops and production areas

Experience and abilities with spreadsheeting

Must be in possession of a valid unendorsed South African Driver’s Licence (preferably Code 08/EB)

Beneficial (preferred) qualifications/ experience:

Horticulture or floriculture experience

Good inter-personal skills
