Introduction

My client in the oil refinery sector is looking to employ an experienced Quality Coordinator to join their dynamic team based at their plant in The Bluff, Durban (KZN)

Purpose of the job:

The Quality Coordinator is responsible for ensuring delivery of a high quality product, on time and at the lowest possible cost. They are also responsible for creating, analysing, managing and continuously improving on an integrated quality management system that meets the company’s and customers regulations and requirements.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

The individual will need to:

Quality and Environmental

• Analyse and improve current quality and environmental systems

• Create, negotiate and implement procedures, standards and specifications for internal use

• Assess customer requirements and ensure they are met

• Set up customer service standards

• Specify raw material requirements with suppliers and ensure compliance to these standards

• Ensure manufacturing processes comply with standards at both national and international levels

• Work with Managers and Staff to ensure procedures, standards and requirements are continuously implemented, analysed and improved

• Implement training as required

• Monitor quality, efficiency and performance

• Anaylse and review blend sheets, raw materials and finished product, make recommendations for and implement improvement programs

• Ensure continuous implementation and improvement of IATF standards

• Be responsible for all aspects of Quality and Environmental including, but not limited to, audits, reviews, monitoring, measurement, training, non-conformances, meetings, change management and updates

• Determine strategic direction and work priorities, in conjunction with line management for continuous improvement of plant and support site’s safety and environmental initiatives

• Implement programs and initiatives aligned with relevant ISO standards to lower risks and improve quality

• Complete prevention inspections and ensure relevant records are up to date

• Investigate environmental incidents and ensure documentation is up to date

• Provide support and expertise to line management in incident investigating and reporting

• Conduct risk assessments and act as final authority where a specialist response is required

New Product Development

• Assist sales and marketing to plan, organise and oversee process and production trails • Provide production cost intelligence and process improvement recommendations

• Formulate new production processes or stages to ensure efficient and cost effective manufacturing processes

• Generate ideas for new products, including feasibility research

• Record and analyse data and present results to colleagues

• Investigate and test new equipment

• Liaise with Sales, Production and/or Executive Team when new products or processes are being innovated

• Ensure technical papers, reports, reviews and specifications are retained and approved at each stage of development process

• Ensure timelines are maintained and projects remain on course

• Remain current and up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments in the market

The individual will need:

• Knowledge of manufacturing in the chemical industry

• Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety standards and requirements

• Ability to design and implement an integrated Quality Management System

• Computer literate with intermediate MS office skills

• To work independently and take instruction • Good communication and inter-personal skills

• Teamwork ability – supportive of leaders and cooperative with others

• Professional work ethics and integrity

• Ability to work to tight deadlines whilst producing the best output

• Proactive and positive outlook

 

Package & Remuneration

• Analytical Chemistry Diploma

• Relevant quality formal qualification in Quality Management would be advantageous – BTech

• Relevant SHEQ qualification

• IATF, OHSAS and ISO qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of SHEQ experience

• Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in the chemical industry

• Automotive/ Chemical experience would be advantagous

• Intermediate MS Office skills
