You don’t need to stand in long queues at the NSFAS campus offices anymore because you can apply online. The online application mechanism is the safest during the COVID-19 pandemic and the most convenient.

Here’s how you apply for NSFAS online: 

  • Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za  and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
  • Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account
  • Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and answer the questions on the screen
  • Step 4: Upload the required supporting documents then click on ‘submit

What documents are required to apply for NSFAS? 

Here is what you need to apply for NSFAS online:

  • Your own cellphone number and email address
  • Copy of your ID or birth certificate
  • ID copies of parents, guardians,s or spouse
  • Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
  • Your parents, guardian, or spouse’s proof of income
  • If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required

Who qualifies for NSFAS? 

You qualify to apply for NSFAS financial aid if you:

  • You are a South African citizen;
  • Your combined annual household income does not exceed R350 000 per annum;
  • You are a SASSA grant recipient;
  • You are registering for the first time for an undergraduate qualification at a public university, or are registered at a TVET college for one of the National Certificate Vocational or report 191 programmes;
  • You are applying to study at a public university or TVET college for a qualification;
  • You are an already registered university student with an annual household income of less than R122 000 per year;
  • You have passed Grade 9 & 10 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college;
  • You have passed Grade 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a university.

How to Apply for NSFAS Online 2022

If you would like to apply for NSFAS 2022, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. You have to visit the NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za online
  2. Then, you have to click on the “myNSFAS” tab
  3. After that, you create your myNSFAS account
  4. After creating myNSFAS account, you then have to click on the “Apply” tab
  5. Answer the following questions you see on your screen
  6. Update all your personal information
  7. Upload all the required supporting documents
  8. Lastly, Click on “Submit” to send your application for review.
