Rhodes University Bachelor of journalism and media studies degree (BJourn)
BJourn
After completing a BA with a major in JMS students can then continue studying in the field by registering for a B.Journ. This fourth year is a postgraduate level qualification and is only available for students who have completed the Rhodes undergraduate course (BA).
It allows students who have completed JMS3 to deepen their critical knowledge and practice within the journalism specialisation chosen at third-year. This additional year will increase the practical skills and portfolio in the chosen specialisation.
Students also get the opportunity to pursue the field of New Media in their fourth year.
There are limited spaces available in fourth year, so simply passing JMS 3 does not guarantee you a place. We are looking for students who perform well in both their media studies and practical specialisation.
