French I P
A course designed to enable students who have not taken French as a school subject to acquire the essential elements of the language and civilisation.

French I
Entrance requirements are a rating of 5 in French in the NSC exam (or the equivalent), or a first-class pass at IP level. The course consists of a practical language component, conversation classes, translation into French and English and 20th century literature including a francophone African text. Except in exceptional circumstances French mother-tongue speakers cannot register for French 1.

French II
This course consists of translation, contemporary French in the fields of tourism and commerce, conversation classes and literature from the 20th and the 21st centuries, including a francophone African text.
French III
Advanced translation, further study of contemporary French in the fields of tourism and commerce as well as conversation classes. French literature from the 16th to the 20th centuries is studied by means of prescribed texts, including a francophone African text.
