DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY, GEOINFORMATICS AND METEOROLOGY
LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER (GEOGRAPHY)

RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate lectures and practicals in the area of geography with a focus on human and urban geography;
  • Developing and updating undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in geography;
  • Contributing to the geography research agenda within the University;
  • Building capacity among staff and students to expand and extend the University’s capacity for geography research;
  • Establishing a sustainable research funding stream to support the above endeavour;
  • Conducting independent and collaborative publishable research in high-impact journals;
  • Establishing collaborations with academics nationally and internationally;
  • Participating in the administration and general management of the department

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Senior Lecturer:

  • PhD in Geography, or a PhD in a closely related discipline that covers aspects of human and urban geography
  • At least two years of tertiary teaching experience
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Evidence of successful Master’s supervision
  • Evidence of research post PhD.
  • Experience in academic administration

Lecturer:
Registered for a PhD or a recent PhD in Geography, or a PhD in a closely related discipline that covers aspects of human and urban geography
Evidence of teaching experience

SALARY DETAILS

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
