Introduction
A promising career opportunity exists with a dynamic agribusiness in the Vyeboom area near Villiersdorp for a Human Resource Manager who enjoys a rural environment and has a hands-on approach. The farm is about 50 km from Somerset West.
This position will report to the Managing Director and the HR Consultant and the main function of this position is to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Human Resources Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
Human Resource Strategy
- Executes the HR strategy and annual HR plans
Recruitment and onboarding
- Acts as liaison between departments heads and recruitment consultant with all salaried employees
- Oversees the recruitment of wage employees
- Assist and oversees the induction of salary and wage employees
Training and development
- Facilitates training of committee meetings
- Provides input in the company’s annual training plan
- Conducts in-house training when required
Compliance
- Prepares and manages the SIZA, Department of Labour and departmental audits
- Develops, maintains, and distributes company HR Policies
- Maintains employee records for salaried employees
- Maintains company organogram
Reward and Company Benefits
- Coordinates bi-annual performance management process for salaried employees
- Maintains job descriptions of salaried employees and assist line manager with writing new job descriptions when required.
- Facilitates annual wage negotiations together with Labour Relations Consultant
- Oversees death and provident funds claims for wage employees
- Processes death and provident fund claims for salaried employees
Employee Relationship Management
- Engages with union regarding relevant employee matters
- Chair monthly shop steward meetings
- Mediates and facilitates employee grievances
- Arranges chairing of disciplinary matters and liaises with the IR consultant
- Represents company at CCMA
- Conducts exit interviews of salary employees
Employment Equity
- Complies quarterly EE statistics to determine if the company is on track with its EE strategy
- Chair EE meetings
- Compiles and submits annual EE reports
Managing creche, health care and company housing functions
- Oversea the management of the Creche and conducts inspections to ensure the creche is compliant
- Established health care and employee wellness programmes in conjunction with health care worker.
- Oversees the management of living arrangements in hostel area and conducts regular inspections
Department Management
- Provides leadership to the HR, creche, housing and health care teams to ensure that the welfare department provides the best possible service to Chiltern.
- Conducts monthly 1-on-1’s with direct reports
- Establishes and monitors KPI achievement and development plans for direct reports
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or Industrial Psychology
Knowledge and Experience
- Computer literate in MS Office
- At least 3 years’ experience at Senior HR Generalist level, including management of a team.
- Has a sound understanding of all areas of HR management as well as the relevant Acts (BCEA, LRA, EEA, SDA, OHSA)
- Experience at employee relationship management, CCMA representation and negotiating with unions is required
