Introduction

Sylvania Metals Eastern Operations is looking for a Plant Manager to manage the day to day operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of the Job:

Overall management of the plant to ensure that the plant and operating staff operates effectively according to the agreed business plan and process parameters. Meet respective safety and product quality and quantity targets.

The role carries legal accountability with a 3.1a legal appointment in terms of the MHSA.

 

Major Tasks of the Job:

  • Effective operation of the plant as an effective business unit to an agreed business plan and process parameters.
  • Develop 2-5 years resource and mining strategy and coordinate ore and services to the plant
  • Responsible for compilation and control of production, quality and cost budgets
  • Creating a high performing team and a conducive employee relations climate – people management (HR and IR) in a unionized environment
  • Ensures adherence to legislative requirements and the company’s Health and Safety Standards
  • Financial Management (operational and capital cost budgets)
  • Responsible for research and development
  • Maintain good relationship with client at host-mine and liaise on all relevant plant issues

Desired Experience & Qualification

Knowledge/Education Requirement:

  • Matric Certificate/ Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Science)
  • Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering Degree or BTech Extraction Metallurgy or similar
  • Post graduate qualification would be advantageous

 

Experience and Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years post qualification experience on metallurgical plants and projects, with at least 5 years in supervisory / management position
  • PGM flotation and chrome recovery plant experience is compulsory
  • Good computer literacy (MS Office), administration and housekeeping skills are essential
  • Valid medical fitness certificate – Fit for movement in plants
  • Code 8 driver’s license and own transport

Personality Requirements:

  • Team player, self-managed, self-motivated, enthusiastic individual
  • A natural leader with good communication skills

 

Other Requirements:

  • Must reside in the local area or be prepared to relocate to the eastern operations (Steelpoort, Burgersfort, Lydenburg) as will be discussed during the interview.
  • Prepared to be on standby 24 hours.
