Introduction

Responsible for implementing warehousing and transportation solutions, whilst managing stakeholder (internal & external) expectations throughout the implementation phase. The candidate will be responsible to interact with and assist in the design, planning and execution of moving client products, staff and related infrastructure of several facilities into Solar City

  • This role directly supports company objectives and contributes to identifying, analyzing & developing value-adding and robust solutions for current & prospective customers.
  • It is vital for the success of this position for the candidate to effectively align customer needs and solutions, with DSV values, policies and strategy to directly support sustainable and profitable business.

Successful collaboration with Operations teams, contractors, & other internal and external stakeholders is critical

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Tools: Application of the following tools and/or methodologies as appropriate and when required:
    • Project Office (Clarity)
    • AQP (Advanced Quality Process) – Facilitation
    • Scheduling (Microsoft Projects)
    • Product based planning (Microsoft Visio)
    • Service Request Management (Cherwell)
    • Project Cost Management (SAP, Webcost)
  • Activity and resource planning:  making a feasible plan that achieves the goals and objectives of the project and aligns with the organization’s overall business strategy. Part of the plan is defining the project’s scope and determining what resources are available, estimating time and financial commitment, as well as how to monitor and report on the project’s progress;
  • Assembling and Leading Project Team: assigning tasks and deadlines, utilizing tools to collaborate. Schedule and facilitation of regular meetings to obtain status updates and chart progress, reallocate resources to balance workloads and to evaluate competencies and capabilities of team members. Organizing and motivating team members; Group facilitations (such workshops and Advanced Quality Planning)
  • Time Management:  define, schedule and accurately estimate the task duration to develop and maintain a realistic schedule;
  • Cost estimating and developing the budget: Develop the budget for proper funding, and maintain actual spend versus approved budget;
  • Quality and Satisfaction:  Deliver satisfying results to stakeholders, keep constant communication;
  • Change Management: Ensure Change management is integrated into project management by planning change management at the same time as project planning and delivering change management according to schedule;
  • Risks and Issues Management:  Apply sound risk management principles to all aspects of projects & engineering activities to ensure all risk factors are avoided, mitigated and/or managed in the best interests of DSV business, clients and staff. Objective of this is also to reduce the time and cost of project execution. Management of Issues through the proper DSV Project governance and escalation protocols;
  • Monitoring Progress:  Monitor and analyze both expenditures and team performance and to always efficiently take corrective measures;
  • Reporting and Documentation:  Reporting on projects according to the defined structures and project management method
  • Stakeholder Management: To develop and maintain sound stakeholder (incl. clients) relationships based on competence, respect and trust
  • Contractual: Support contract development and/or negotiation with clients and suppliers;
  • Procurement Management: Support supplier selection and management aligned with sound ethical business practice and DSV Policy;
  • Travel: Reasonable local and international travel requirement to use knowledge, skills and experience in support of relevant DSV business objectives.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering or Transport Management/Economics or relevant four year qualification from accredited institution
  • MICROSOFT VISIO & PROJECT (Advanced)
  • Project Portfolio software (such as Clarity) Basic
  • Minimum five years relevant project management experience in logistics & supply chain management;
  • Unendorsed license & own transport;
  • Ability to travel around Cape Town, South Africa & International;
  • Excellent written & verbal communications skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills & able to work in a collaborative & team-based environment;
  • Ability to employ effective problem-solving abilities;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Project Management experience: >/= 5 years in logistics environment, including WMS implementation;
  • Industrial Engineering or Transport Management experience: > 4 years in a logistics environment;
  • Warehouse & Operational Management experience:  > 1 years with demonstrated knowledge of best practices & legal compliance;
  • Leadership experience in Project or Operations role: > 1 years with effective staff performance management & development;
  • Detail oriented, high work rate & quality of work;
  • Facilitation skills: > 2 years effective experience in leading & influencing a diverse group through planning and/or problem solving activities for effective outcomes;
  • Financial: > 1 years effective experience in developing budgets & managing actual versus budget, including CAPEX, OPEX and P&L’s;
  • Contractual: > 1 years’ experience in directly supporting contract and service level development and negotiation with client
  • Construction Management experience: > 1 years operational experience in construction will be advantageous
  • Warehouse Best Practice: w.r.t. warehousing processes and inventory management, e.g. Lean, WERC, etc.
  • General business acumen and sound knowledge of procurement principles, engineering economics and fundamental accounting principles;
  • Warehouse Design and Configuration aligned to Best Practices, OHS and Legal Compliance: Extensive knowledge and experience;
  • Applied negotiation skills
  • Applied risk management skills
  • Supply Chain Management accreditation such as CSCP, SCOR-P, etc.
  • Project Management accreditation such as Prince2 or PMP
